With our Kitchen complete – apart from the finishing touches (read Part 1 & 2, and the Dining Area refurbishment here), it’s time to move over to our Living Room Project.
This project was simply to give the whole room a refreshing look; getting rid of the faded colour the lining paper was making throughout the room. And bring colour and pattern to the room instead, which this room was in desperate need for!
When we moved in two years ago we knew the living room was very dated. Green painted walls, in two hues of colour, split by a dark brown thin dado rail. Peach/brown carpet and an outdated fireplace. This fireplace was only for show, and not fully functioning.
The previous owners had their tv on the wall, which is something I’m not keen on. And their banisters were a combination of dark wood, and white paint.
All in all, it was a very confused space, that didn’t look welcoming or cosy, which a living room should be. Especially when this is the first room yourself and guests walking into and see.

Living Room Decorating
In all fairness I’ve known for a very long time what I wanted to do to this room.
The idea I’ve had for this Living Room decorating project was to make this space feel homely, cosy and calm.
This room is where Dominic, Bailey (the dog) and I spend the majority of our time. And it needed to reflect what we got up to; a place to relax after a long day of work, to watch tv, to socialise and to be a calming place to read.
It’s an area we use a lot, and this needed to be reflected in the decor.
As soon as we moved in the dado rail was removed, and the walls were lining papered to make even and smooth.
(About to paint our living room!)
I’ve known my Pretty Flower wallpaper was going to be a feature wall in our Living Room for the past two years. Numerous paint colours have been up on the walls to get a feel for what would suit this space. Plus to compliment the Pretty Flower wallpaper.
Over the Summer I finally made decisions. We decided to go for two paint colours in the Living Room to decorate with, and which went really well for the feature wallpaper.
We both decided on Dulux Paint – Mint Macaroon and Jade White.
Both paint colours are a beautiful compliment to the Pretty Flower wallpaper in Duck Egg Blue. With both paints involving a lovely hint of teal.
DIY Decorating
With every project in our home, we have taken on the challenge to do everything DIY ourselves (where possible). This was no exception for the Living Room decorating. Whilst the Kitchen and Bathroom have been tackled by Dominic, I wanted to make sure the Living Room became a haven for us to relax in after the long days we were going through.
So I got to work with all things painting! This was for the walls we weren’t wallpapering, plus giving the skirting boards, doors and door frames a new refreshing lick of paint.

(Painting complete – now time to tidy up!)
Now with the painting complete, it means I can now go off to screen print the Pretty Flower Wallpaper. Plus work on the finishing touches for furniture and accessories to suit the space.
I can’t wait to show you the next stage of our Living Room decorating project! But for now I shall leave with you a little taster of the living room coming together…
