When it came to renovating and decorating our own Kitchen last year (which you can read about here), I knew timeless kitchen trends were to play a big roll in the whole project.
Our idea for this space was to create a space that we loved. But also knowing our current home isn’t our forever home, we wanted to make the kitchen as timeless as possible, whilst being on trend (to suit our own interior style).
This is what I want to share with you today. Because timeless kitchen trends are easily achievable for a range of different budgets. It’s just knowing what to look for, and how and where to apply these trends.
Timeless Kitchen Trends that Never Go Out of Style
Kitchens are the heart of every household. People gather around them every day to bond and cook meals together. Because of this it’s only fitting that kitchens should be renovated or added to every so often. This will ensure they’re meeting the needs of the inhabitants.
Over time, kitchens experience wear and tear, so making sure it’s functional and polished is important.
To help with your design process, I’ll be be looking at timeless kitchen trends that never go out of style.
Stone countertops
Stone countertops are a classic element to any kitchen. There are a lot of options out there for kitchen countertops, but engineered stone is timeless. While natural stones like marble and granite are beautiful, they’re also extremely expensive and can be prone to stains.
The Spruce recommends quartz, an engineered stone product bound with resin, for its durability. Some designs can even accurately replicate the look of marble. Engineered stone is resistant to heat, scratching and staining which helps it withstand the test of time. It’s also very easy to maintain since it doesn’t require sealing.
Also, it’s available in a wider range of colours. If you’re a DIY fan, it’s also possible to install them yourself. But remember to be prepared because stone countertops can be very heavy.
Flooring
Similarly, natural hardwood floors have also lost popularity compared to their engineered rivals.
Engineered wood allows you to have the beautiful homey feel of hardwood while also being effective at dealing with moisture.
The anti-moisture factor that engineered flooring provides is an extremely important feature in a kitchen.
Given the practicality, cost-effectiveness, and ease of installation—not to mention the wide variety of styles—it looks like the engineered flooring trend is here to stay.
Open kitchen spaces
Open kitchens have been around since the 1990s, and it’s a style that remains popular to this day. Kitchens have a tendency to be cramped, what with all the appliances and cooking materials.
Open kitchens allow you to add more volume to the room, especially for homes that are trying to maximise their space. If you’re hosting guests, open kitchens are a great way to entertain while preparing meals at the same time.
Country Living suggests using lighting to differentiate the kitchen and living areas, while using a uniform wall colour to keep everything cohesive.
Effective storage solutions
One of the biggest struggles with kitchen cabinets is that they take up a lot of space. Kitchen storage has a tendency of being inadequate or ineffective, which leaves you frustrated with a cramped kitchen. Effective kitchen units are the best way to prevent clutter.
They’re also another way of opening up space if you have a modest sized room. If you are looking for smart storage solutions, focus on working with the space you have and finding creative solutions to improve it.
Look into different-sized units to see what can fit given your limitations. The kitchen units listed on Screwfix come in a variety of dimensions, such as tall and thin, which can create extra space for those who don’t have much room.
One tip for a DIY kitchen refurbishment is to try to find cupboards that fit right up to the ceiling in order to maximise storage space vertically. If you have the budget, also look into roll-out trays and caddies for pots and pans, as well as deep cabinets for rubbish bins. These will save you a lot on space and will allow you to move more freely in your kitchen.
It is never to late to start changing your kitchen. From large-scale adjustments to taking advantage of the space you have, kitchen renovations never go out of style. A good home will always have a great kitchen.
