I do love the start of a new year. There’s something really refreshing about it; getting ideas for new home decor inspirations, including the new interior colour trends.
Following the latest colour trends doesn’t mean you need to completely redecorate your home each year.
In fact, it’s more of a way to spruce up areas of your home that may be needing a little TLC.
The beauty about interior colour trends when it comes to decorating your home is that it can be applied where ever you like. And as big or small as you’d like that trend to be in your home.
You may even find you already have a pop of that colour in your home already. With this, you can use this as a starting point to give your home a little freshen up, by enhancing this colour more in some way.
This could be through;
- The use of new interior accessories/ decorative items.
- Introducing soft furnishings with this colour scheme.
- Shopping your home, and rearranging items to suit the trend.
- Painting or wallpapering a wall or a room in this chosen colour.
- Have a focal furniture piece in this desired colour.
Interior Colour Trends 2021
I have researched my favourite top 5 interior colour trends for 2021 that I would love to share with you. Helping you with the next steps for redecorating or refreshing your home this year.
DULUX – Brave Ground
‘A warm, elemental neutral, Dulux Colour of the Year 2021, Brave Ground,’ isn’t about making a stand out statement with this colour. Instead it’s a colour that is to be used to bring ‘a bolstering, balancing feel to any room. It’s also a versatile shade that lets other colours shine’.

Brave Ground has been designed to be a warm neutral that work with other colours to create different calming environments.
And as if by magic, it fits perfectly with the next four interior colour trends I have selected to share with you.
Pantone – Illuminating and Ultimate Grey
‘PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating, two independent colours that highlight how different elements come together to support one another.’ Very much like Dulux’s Interior Colour Trend, the meaning behind the colour choice is significantly important.
‘It is a story of colour that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.
A message of happiness supported by fortitude, the combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit.’

Farrow & Ball
Blue is the universal colour for calmness and tranquility, so it’s no wonder Farrow & Ball have decided to make it one of their interior colour trends this year.
‘Blue paint is a perennial favourite for all kinds of homes, popping up in palettes year after year – and next year looks to be no different.’
‘These uncomplicated shades feel familiar, and so they have a soothing effect in the home despite their cooler undertones. The beauty of these colours also lies in their versatility’ (as well).
- Quoted from Farrow & Ball
Green, the universal colour of harmony. ‘Bringing the elements of the natural world into our interiors encourages personal growth as well as evoking a feeling of calm,’
‘Part of the reason for green paint’s popularity is its sheer variety….we’ll be seeing of this evergreen favourite is a comforting one: soothing, earthy tones that reflect our need to be close to nature.’
-Quoted from Farrow & Ball
In a similar trend to Dulux, Farrow & Ball have very much captured the big role neutral colours are playing in our lives, especially as we are spending more time at home.
But neutrals don’t have to feel dull and lifeless. In fact they can be quite the opposite, as show by both Dulux and Farrow & Ball here in this blog.
‘As we continue to spend more time than usual indoors, many of us are craving a greater connection with nature – not just when we’re lucky enough to get out and about in it, but when we come home again.
A brilliant way to embrace the calming properties of nature in your home is through colour, whether that’s natural greens, timeless blues, or…earth tones.’
‘The palette of colours we want to use in the home has expanded…We’re looking to introduce warmer tones, which add personality and elegance while still feeling comfortable.’
-Quoted from Farrow & Ball
