Valentines Day Gift Ideas

Valentines Day is a funny time of year isn’t it? There’s a lot of pressure to have to celebrate this one romantic day of the year. Or even shop for Valentines Day gift ideas, even if you don’t want to or believe in it.

I’m not normally one to celebrate Valentines Day. Mainly because I don’t believe we should restrict ourselves to just one day a year to express to those around us how much we love them.

In fact I think saying it and showing as much as possible each year is more important.

However, with this one day a date in the diary to celebrate/make a fuss over the ones we love, I have thought about how to use Valentines Day as an advantage to supporting those around you.

This year my resolution is to buy from only small independent, and local businesses, (as well as charity shops), or as much as possible/when I can. This can be buying for myself, our home, and presents to others for Birthdays, Anniversaries etc.

So far this year I’ve been doing well, and Valentines Day is another way I can make sure I’m keeping my resolution going.

The beauty about shopping small/supporting local businesses is you don’t have to spend a fortune. Even purchasing a small gift is something towards helping. Plus, it’s likely that it will be a unique buy that not many others have.

So, especially for the most romantic day of the year, here are my top 5 Valentines Day Gift Ideas for that special someone in your life…or perhaps for yourself!

My Shop Small Valentines Day Gift Guide;

Crystal and Stone – Jewellery

I came across Crystal & Stone around 5-6 years ago, and I’m still in love with this independent brand. Crystal and stone create gorgeous, yet minimalist jewellery pieces that are perfect for everyday wear (which has me written all over it!).

What I love most is their affordability, especially if you wear them everyday. As well as the fact they are either made from sterling silver, or goldfill/rose gold fill. Making each piece long lasting for years (mine are still as good as new), unlike most ‘fashion jewellery’ found in high street shops.

She also provides Gift Vouchers, which is a perfect idea if you’re unsure what to buy for your special someone.

Natalie Branch Floral Design – Faux flowers

Natalie is a florist based in North London and creates stunning floral bouquets, mainly styling with silk artificial flowers.  She was also my wedding florist, where she helped me create the beautiful foliage look I wanted for our barn wedding. Plus made my bouquet out of all faux flowers.

Natalie’s faux flowers are honestly some of the best I have ever seen, and that is because she is very talented at what she does. It’s to the point you do have to really study and look (if not prod) each plant to realize they are not real.

Flowers are such a traditional gift for loved ones on Valentines Day. And what I love about Natalie’s collections is that they are seasonal, making them ideal to have them styled to match your interiors throughout the year.

Therefore you’re not spending a fortune for a bouquet that disappears as quick as the week is up. In fact you have a long-lasting arrangement that stays with you throughout the year. A perfect memory maker, in my opinion.

Valentte – Natural skin care and home fragrances

I came across Valentte at Kirstie’s Homemade Fair last September, where they were handing out little samples of their handmade, natural hand cream.

When I got home and tried this free sample, instantly I loved it. Honestly it’s one of the best natural hand creams I have ever had.

Not only is the fragrance stunning (I had the lemongrass scent), but the cream is thick enough to ensure your hands are getting enough per coating to them.

Therefore you don’t use a lot of it each time, making it go further. Plus it’s not oily, so you don’t have to wait for the cream to absorb before you can go off and do anything.

I’m definitely going to reorder from this company, and look at the natural home fragrances as well.

Los Reyes – local date night/voucher

If you’re not one for giving presents on Valentines Day, why not think about supporting local by going out for Date Night on the eve of Valentines  Day.

Or see whether your favourite local restaurant sells vouchers that you can buy, and then you can pop a date in the diary to go out and spoil each other for an alternative Date Night.

The hubby and I have our most favourite restaurant in Hitchin, close to where we live. Los Reyes is a tapas restaurant with a contemporary twist, which we stumbled upon by chance when we went on our first date night 4 years ago when we moved into our first and (current) home.

Since then we have become (sort of) regulars, where when we want to treat ourselves to date night we head there, knowing it is a really special treat. Not just your regular Pizza Express or Wagamama type of evening.

Supporting local/independent businesses doesn’t just have to about buying products, but also supporting our high street and restaurants that need us just as much.

Laura Felicity – (new) ‘Love’ Greeting Cards

If nothing else, I think it’s important to always buy a card to say I love you to that special someone on Valentines Day. I know it may not be for everyone, but it’s a small token of love that may not get said as often as we should.

They may look familiar, as they have been Art Prints before making their way as a card.

What I love in particular about these cards (all generic/not occasion specific), is you can frame them, making them a very affordable Art Print alternative!

As well as keeping the love alive by hanging it somewhere in your home to remind each other how much you love one another.
