How to style with plants has to be one of my favourite decorating tips to share.
HOW TO STYLE WITH PLANTS
BRING THE OUTSIDE IN!
Since lockdown I have been more attentive to the plants we have in our home, and I’ve also realised how much I love them in the house.
Officially, I think I’ve become a Crazy Plant Lady.
When they are due for their weekly feed, and I have to take them away from their usual spot to be watered, it’s amazing how the space looks bare and dull without them.
It’s made me realise how visually delightful styling with plants in our homes can be.
As well as their visual benefits, studies have shown that indoor plants are able to:
- Boost mood, productivity, concentration and creativity
- Reduce stress, fatigue, sore throats and colds
- Clean indoor air by absorbing toxins, increasing humidity and producing oxygen
- Add life to a room
- Are therapeutic and cheaper than a therapist (I love this fact!)
We are only beginning to understand the impact indoor air quality has on our mental health, which is why adding plants in our lives is hugely beneficial. This especially came to light when we were recently restricted to how many times we are allowed to be benefiting from nature outside.
But maybe you are one that is not great at keeping plants alive?
Choosing the right plant for your home, comes down to your lifestyle (in my opinion).
My main Top Tip for choosing the right plant/s, is doing a little research about what you want first before you buy.
There are some plants that need ALOT of tender love and care, and are very fussy with where they live in your home.
Then there are others who you can pretty much leave to their own devices, and pay them attention every so often.
Having plants around your home doesn’t mean they have to be real, they can be faux ones too.
I’d say I’m 50/50! It’s been a huge learning curve for me; understanding what each plant individually needs to keep well.
Sometimes I get it right. Other times I sadly don’t. Which is why I also opt for faux plants.
Faux plants are also brilliant for styling in areas of your home that aren’t ‘real plant friendly’. i.e. areas that don’t get a lot of light, but would still benefit from a plant being styled there.
Granted they won’t have all the health benefits to real ones, but if it cheers up your mood. And helps make your home feel calming then surely that’s a start! (Especially in your and your kids work/play area.)
Tell me, are you a plant lover in your home? Do you prefer styling with plants that are real or faux? Or perhaps both, like me.
