Home Office Styling

Since the beginning of 2019 I have been busying away working on the Home Office styling side of things. In order to create a perfect little haven for me to work in whilst working at home.

I have written about the start of my Home Office refurbishment, which happened just before Christmas 2018. You can read about this here.

And, if you would prefer to watch my YouTube video version, you can do so below.

Home Office styling for me is all about the finishing touches that are practical for you to have in situe whilst you work. Plus inspiring and motivating to get you through the working day

My Home Office Styling Tips;

The Desk

When we moved in we brought the Hubby’s desk and office chair from his parents’ home. It served a purpose of course. However it was huge and bulky, taking up even more of the room’s available space. And the downside is it didn’t have many useful areas for storage.

To really utilise the space in this room, I decided I needed a new desk that could also maximize my storage. After writing my Spring Trend 2019 ideas from Wayfair back in January, I found THE perfect desk that would be perfect for this room through Wayfair itself.

I actually went for a L-shaped desk to give me more work top space. This came with plenty of drawer and shelf storage space underneath, which runs along one side.

This means that when it comes to moving the office out of the second bedroom, I do not have to worry about taking away storage areas on the walls that are only for office purposes.

For my office chair I did have trouble finding something comfortable yet stylish.

At the time this room was being decorated, we received our new dining room chairs. We have four in total, but we only use two in the kitchen (unless guests are here of course). Keeping to the cost side of things down, and to utilise the purpose of the other two chairs, one is now my office chair. Which fits in perfectly for this room with regards to style and colour.

Plus it is very comfortable to sit on throughout the day.

Shelving

Shelving was also an important aspect for me when designing this room. I need to display inspiration (who doesn’t love an inspiring shelfie!) to keep me motivated. Plus it’s needed in any home office to store all files, documents, design books…and in my case any stock and samples etc.

I found these very cost effective white shelves and light wood brackets from Ikea. They are affordable (around £8 per shelf, and £2 per bracket), plus look really chic, modern and almost Scandinavian when up on the wall.

I bought three; one to be my Shelfie of inspiration, where I styled this particular shelf with objects that I love.

The other two I joined together to make one long running shelf along the wider wall, to store all of my necessities on.

Next it was onto the Home Office Styling. The fun part!

This room, like the other rooms was designed to really show off my Laura Felicity Product Range. My Pretty Flower design in duck egg, is a beautiful compliment to the Nest Egg feature wallpaper I have used.

I decided to feature this Pretty Flower pattern alongside for small styling details. It has been made into a roller blind, the ceiling shade, plus I screen printed a large Art Print, which I framed and is now displayed against the Dulux ‘Mint Macaroon’ feature wall.

Years ago I actually found an old telephone chair in a charity shop for £20! I quickly snapped this up, and have transformed it with Annie Sloan’s ‘Paris Grey’ chalk paint. Then I had it upholstered in my Pretty Flower fabric. This has been sitting in storage for AGES! Now, finally it has pride of place below the large Pretty Flower Art Print. Sitting on the telephone chair, is a Nest Egg lampshade on a wooden lamp stand to compliment the Ikea shelf brackets, which I bought from Dunelm.

When we moved out my mum gave us a small, pine bookshelf, which I remember having in my bedroom as a little girl. This has been given a mini makeover as well by painting it in the (leftover) Annie Sloan ‘Paris Grey’ chalk paint.

This has transformed this bookshelf, and has been installed in front of my Nest Egg wallpaper.

This currently is another Shelfie area for me / is my little creative area. I have displayed my paints, inks, paintbrushes, colour swatches, small Laura Felicity Portfolio, ribbons, buttons etc. In fact anything I need for designing, that also looks great on display.

What’s next?

This home office is still a bit of a working progress, because I would like to find a nice filing cabinet/storage solution for all of our house paperwork. And organise my shelving areas more to make them more convenient to me whilst working. Plus, I want to carry on finding and displaying lovely buys to make this room feel even more welcoming and inviting. Part of me is tempted to get some hanging fairy lights, which would go perfectly in one corner that’s looking a little sparse. Or perhaps a few more art prints may be needed.

For the time being though I love this space. It has had a huge transformation, and I think really captures the timeless aspect with regards to making this space multipurpose when it will need to be. (All in good time though.)
