My Home Office Decorating Ideas

I’ve realised lately that I’ve not written about my Home Office Decorating Idea, whilst blogging about our DIY Home Projects.

(If you would prefer, you can watch my YouTube video of this blog below.)

This room is the second bedroom in our house, and ever since we moved in I nabbed it as my own, personal workspace (sorry Hubby). So I could have a place to work in when working from home.

This bedroom when we first moved in was literally a very yellow space!

It included dingy yellow wallpaper, with a red/orange boarder, which was literally tacked on to the wall with double-sided tape. Topped off with a beige carpet and navy blue curtains.

It was very dated, and I don’t think it (like the rest of the house), had been decorated in a very long time.

When we first moved in we stripped the yellow wallpaper off the walls, and lining papered everywhere to create a blank canvas.

For the past two/two and half years this is what I had been working in.

But it also (sadly) got used as a storage/dumping area. You can imagine it was a very uninspiring place to work, and felt very claustrophobic most of the time.

Unlike other areas of the house (the kitchen and bathroom mainly), this room only needed a little spruce up very much like the living room and our bedroom.

My Home Office decorating idea;

I have always known that this room won’t be my office space forever. In fact I designed it, mainly to be another bedroom for when/if our little family grows, which in the future we would like it to.

BUT I have also designed it to be a place where I feel inspired to work in as a Home Office. Which is important when I need the kick up the arse to keep motivated. It also does help that I have my pattern designs around me to help with this.

Therefore I needed to design this bedroom with a home office decorating idea in mind.

The process for tackling this multipurpose space solution was simple.

It mainly started with choosing the wallpaper I wanted to for this room. I have always known that my Nest Egg design was going to be the main feature wall for this room. I love the whimsical and fantasy style to this pattern, along the calming colours I have involved within it (duck egg, blush pink and mustard).

However choosing the feature wall was a little more difficult, because of my current work station set up/layout. I settled on the wall on the left hand side of the door, because the other large wall was to have shelving up on it and potentially other inspiring art work on there.

This is because it’s closer to the area I work and I don’t want to drill holes into the wallpaper, if I know I’m going to be rearranging shelving, art work etc further down the line.

I of course took it upon myself to install my own wallpaper. Which however tricky, I love to do.

Next it was all about the paint to compliment Nest Egg wallpaper. Keeping costs low I actually re-used some of the paint colours I have used elsewhere in our home, which has worked perfectly for this room and matching colours.

For the remaining three walls in the room, I used;

One wall has been painted in Dulux ‘Mint Macaroon’.

The other two walls are in Valspar’s ‘Soft Wool’.

I’m all for a bit of colour, rather than all white walls to compliment a feature wallpaper.

Therefore I decided to have a small feature painted wall in colour (Dulux ‘Mint Macaroon’).

These colours work beautifully together, as well as compliment my Nest Egg wallpaper. The blue creates a calming and harmonizing atmosphere. Where the off-white is the perfect background/blank canvas colour for the styling side of things.

Which leads me to my next steps for this room;

The finishing touches, which really has brought this Home Office space to life. This will be coming up in Part 2 next week.
